On September 15, 2002, The Children’s Dyslexia Centers Inc. dedicated its first center in Connecticut at 529 Highland Avenue in Waterbury. In June of 2018 the first Connecticut satellite center was opened at 961 Huntingdon Turnpike in Bridgeport. During 2019, a second satellite was opened at 2 High Street in the Brickwalk plaza in Farmington. The centers offer graduate level training for adults. These courses provide instruction in how to teach children to read using a multisensory structured language education (MSLE) approach based upon the Orton-Gillingham approach and is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Education Council (IMSLEC). The centers also provide one-on-one tutoring sessions for children. Children have 2 one-hour sessions each week, after school, that are individually prepared for that child. Through the generosity of the Scottish Rite Fraternity of Connecticut and many private donors, we are able to provide all tutoring and training free of charge. We have certified over 50 educators and have provided tutorial services to approximately 200 children.
